On Thursday our senior boys rugby team played Rockwell in Senior Cup. CPB’s Óisín O’Connor presented the referee with the match ball and in a lovely touch Rockwell presented him with a jersey. CPB produced an excellent team display, even if the scoreline may not reflect this. Unfortunately Rockwell crossed the whitewash after 5 minutes but they had to work hard with the strong CPB defence. Rockwell got their second try of the game after twenty minutes which they converted. Dylan Hicks had an opportunity to put CPB on the scoreboard just before half time but his kick went narrowly wide. The half time score was 12-0 to Rockwell. Rockwell’s physicality pushed them further ahead in the second half. After 42 minutes Eli Reynolds replaced Oran Wiseman. CPB pushed through the opposition defence shortly after with Dylan Hicks making strong drives to get to the line but unfortunately they just couldn’t get over the line. Paddy Cronin replaced Daire Kingston on 55 minutes. Rockwell finished the game with a converted try. Michael O’Donovan impressed in defence making some outstanding tackles throughout. Ciarán O’Sullivan played well offensively making powerful drives through with the ball. Fionn Barry gave a great display of leadership motivating his team and playing well through injury. Daire Kingston made great runs as well as making important tackles to help hold off the strong opposition attack. The lads can be extremely proud of their teamwork and effort throughout. A huge well done to all the lads for their success so far in this competition.
