Huge congratulations to Niamh McCarthy who has been selected to train with the Irish under 18 girls squad in the high performance centre in Abbotstown. She is one of the youngest of the 36 girls selected to train. 28 girls will be being selected to travel to England over Easter to play Wales, France and England. Niamh has now completed the first weekend training and has two more before the final squad is selected.
Niamh started her rugby at home playing with her older brothers and always showed great potential, she has played through the age grades with BBRFC and was delighted to be selected onto the Munster under 18 squads over the last two interprovincial seasons. Her position on the Irish squad is tight- head, where she enjoys. Niamh loves the game and works hard on and off the pitch to be the best she can be. There are long journey travelling to training but these are all worthwhile when Niamh has been given such a wonderful opportunity.
The support of the club and the school has been fantastic; the gym facilities in the school offer Niamh the opportunity to complete her strength and conditioning onsite, supported by teachers and friends.
Additionally, Mary Fox and Muireann McCarthy have been selected onto the ‘Front Five ‘ development squad for Munster under 17’s, this is a training forum for players who play in the front row with their clubs who have been identified as having potential to play for their province.
Grace Kingston has been selected onto the Munster 7’s training squad under 17.
