Dear Parent
The number 1 issue of concern raised by parents in our recent survey was alcohol and drug use. In response the Parents Association has organised a Drug & Alcohol Information Evening for Parents this coming Thursday @ 7pm.
We have 3 excellent speakers lined up for the night:
Chris Black – HSE Southern Regional Drugs Task Force Coordinator will talk to us about the level of the problem of alcohol and drug use in secondary school children on a national level and inform us about the specific local services available to our youth. |
Damien White – our local Community Garda will go through the judicial aspects of drug and alcohol use and share his knowledge on the various drugs that are available ‘on the street’. |
Anna Fitzgerald, Youth and Community Worker will talk about parental responsibilities and give us some ideas on how we might carry these duties out. She will also educate us on how to recognise the signs that our young people might be misusing. |
The objective of this meeting is to educate us as parents in relation to the issues surrounding drug and alcohol use among our children in our community and by so doing enable us to hopefully keep them safe.
The meeting will begin at 7.30pm sharp but doors will open at 7pm and we would urge you to come early as we expect a big turnout and places may have to be limited. The format of the meeting will be that we will divide the participants into 3 groups and each group will rotate through 3 workshops. This is to facilitate discussion and enable people to ask questions. The meeting will finish by 9.30.
