On Tuesday 21st of February, in Dunmanway RFC, a large crowd of supporters gathered to watch the CPB Girls Junior Cup team face Bandon Grammar School(BGS) in the Quarter Finals of the Munster Junior Cup. While the game remained a close affair for the first 15 minutes, CPB edged ahead with a hard fought try by the pack, which was touched down by Muireann McCarthy, who would cross the whitewash twice more for similar forward driven tries. This was followed in close succession by scores from Grace Kingston, her first of three tries, representing the backs. Special mention to Belle O Donoghue, playing at fullback, who made a try saving tackle early in the 1st half.
CPB were very impressive at the ruck, and the forwards, honourable mention to Mary Fox and Leah Barry, were dominant in ball carrying, while the entire team operated as an impressive defensive line. The CPB ruck was solid in general with 5 BGS rucks being turned over by the girls in blue. Maggie Murray was outstanding in one of these counter rucks, with Nora Fox showing her aptitude for the jackal in others. Leah Hicks converted 1 of the tries, which is a testament to the competitive nature of the match, where BGS forced the try scorers towards the sidelines. The game was expertly steered by Hicks at fly-half and Annie Doody at scrum-half, who are becoming a formidable duo. The other team members and entire squad kept their heads cool throughout, and held BGS at the CPB try line in what was a wonderful team performance, who enjoyed the support of a large crowd on the sideline.
