Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai Senior Boys Basketball team have had a mixed start to their season after both a win and an extra time defeat in their seven team section. On matchday one they fought back an eight point deficit to eventually win by 37 points to 24. Shane Mccarthy was influential with 20 points along with good scoring by Savo Dragaš and Daniel Murray and excellent rebounding by Aaron Barry and Adam Phillips. On matchday two Bantry were at home to Clonal to Community College. This was a very tight game and good performances were produced by Mark Keohane and Ron Gutierrez as well as impressive debuts under the boards from Michael Healy and Barry O’Driscoll. Bantry led throughout the whole game and were 8 points in the clear and almost certain winners with 12 seconds on the clock when Clon produced a stunning comeback winning possession from 3 Bantry starts and scoring two 3 pointers and a basket to draw the game and force an extra time period. Bantry seemed to be shellshocked by the comeback and never got going and eventually lost out by a scoreline of 40-43.
With four games left in the group and two of the seven teams to go through to the semi final of the Southern Section (Cork) Bantry will need a 100% record in the remaining games. Next up home to Ballyvourney on Monday 13th of October.
