It has been a remarkably busy few weeks in Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrtaiwith lots of rugby action across all age groups. Participation in the sport continues to be strong with lots of new talent emerging in all teams. Despite the recent harsh weather all matches and competitions have proceeded, and we have lots more action to look forward to between now and Christmas.
Our 1st–year teams have had 2 outings in the Cork County regional Blitz competition. They have played lots of teams from across the region including teams from Davis College Mallow, Blarney (SMGS)Clonakilty Community College, Midleton CBS & Midleton College. Some excellent team and individual performances were on display.
The U-15 team also had a busy first term on the rugby pitch. They have participated in the West Cork u-15 Blitz days with plenty of action and games against Skibbereen and Clonakilty Community Schools as well as Mount St Michael from Rosscarbery. Most recently they had 3 great victories in the McCarthy C Munster Competition beating Presentation Brothers Cork, Christian Brothers Cork, and St Munchin’s Limerick. They have now qualified for the final day of this competition.
Our junior team had a great win in the Mungret Shield just before the Midterm break over Clonmel High School. Next week they face Villers College Limerick in the same competition with that game also doubling up as a junior cup qualifier match so all to play for.
The senior team has put in some solid performances in the last 2 Mungret League games V Clonmel High School and Midleton CBS.They were very unlucky to be beaten in the final minutes of each match by only 2 points. Next week they welcome Villers College to CPB forthe first time and the penultimate match in this competition. The game also doubles as a senior cup qualifier, so lots to play for in this fixture. KO is at 1 pm at CPB.
