The CPB Wheelers Wheelchair Basketball Club played host to an exciting eight-team tournament this Wednesday, drawing participants from four Cork schools: Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí, Skibbereen Community School, Schull Community College, and Coachford College.
The competition kicked off with two pools, each featuring a team from every school. CPB 1 emerged as the top team in their pool, setting the stage for a highly anticipated semi-final clash against CPB 2 in what was an “All-Bantry” showdown. CPB 1 with the older more experienced players secured victory, earning them a spot in the final against Schull 1, who had defeated Coachford 2 in their semi-final match.
The final was a tense affair, with both teams battling fiercely for the opening scores. However, CPB 1 took control early on, thanks to standout performances from Oisín O’Connor, Ella O’Donovan, and Charlie Curran. As the game progressed, Aoife Kingston, Max Flynn, Emma Ward, Danny O’Donovan, Lucy Breen and Saffron Hogan added crucial points, securing the championship title for CPB 1.
A big thank you goes out to the students and staff of the visiting schools for their participation, which helped make the tournament a resounding success. Congratulations to CPB 1 on their well-deserved victory, and their organisation skills for organising such a successful event.
