On Thursday CPB boys senior rugby team finished the season in style with an emphatic win in the Mungret Cup against Clonmel. Within a few minutes of the game starting Michael O’Donovan scored a try after he gained possession from the back of the scrum just off the halfway line and ran the pitch before gliding over the try line. It wasn’t long before Dylan Hicks scored a try of his own after intercepting a Clonmel attack which he then converted. Cillian O Brien also got a try of his own after catching the ball across the field from Dylan, he then dodged the Clonmel defence with great footwork to cross the line. Dylan followed that conversion with another converted try of his own to leave the half time score 26-0. CPB were not in the mood to relent in the second half with further tries from Stephen O’Donoghue and Paddy Cronin which were both converted by Dylan. Clonmel did find a few gaps in the CPB defence to register some scores in the second half but the win was never in doubt. Fionn Barry captained his team to victory. He played superbly holding strong and motivating his team to the end.
Joey O Sullivan had a very strong defence and made some very necessary tackles to help his side. Ciarán O’Sullivan held strong and made great attacks and drives. There were joyful celebrations at full time with a superb win on a scoreline of 40-15. Well done boys and coaches!
