Our senior girls exited the Under 19 A League in style on Friday with an epic victory over group leaders Skibbereen Community School. Trailing in the first three quarters, we entered the final 8 minutes six points down and went on to outscore our opponents in that quarter 16 to 8 leading to a final score line of 39-37. Our excellent defence kept the Skibbereen scoring chances down and some super shots from Clodagh Downey and Lily O’Sullivan meant we were all square with 20 seconds on the clock. Our victory was ensured with an excellent rebound basket from Katie Russell.
Special mention must go to Sally O’Donovan, Molly McCarthy and Faye Murnane who, as leaving Certs, donned the CPB colours for their final time today. A part of our school basketball team since first year, they have epitomised all that is great about the sport, always magnanimous in victory and gracious in defeat. If they have the attitude in life that they display on the court, they will go far. Thanks girls and congrats!
