This year’s Student Council are an enthusiastic and dedicated group who meet every second Monday during their lunch break.
In addition to 2 new members from each year group who were democratically elected by their respective year groups, they have the benefit of the experience of 5 returning members.
The group elected officers at their 1st meeting with Ellie Mc Carthy securing the role of Chairperson, assisted by Leah Phillips. They are currently reviewing their Constitution and are very active in representing Student Voice in CPB. They have regular meetings with management in the school discussing various issues raised by their peers. Communication and co operation between all sides has been very positive!
Our school is a member of the ISSU and our representative in that group is Pádraig Harrington who, along with Ellie and Daisy Mc Carthy Lamb attended the Munster Regional meeting of the ISSU in Cork in November. Pádraig, Ellie and Mark Vanyai have also been involved with Cork County Comhairle na nÓg and SC members attended their online AGM recently. The voice of the student population of Bantry is being well represented at a regional level.
CPB Student Council were keen to do some fundraising for local groups and have been busy organising a festive “Treat Day” and raffle for students and staff in CPB. Part of their role is to enhance student experience in CPB and they hope to create some happy memories and festive cheer on the 8th December while raising valuable funds for the West Cork Down Syndrome Support Group.
3rd Year members Maebh Burke and Aaron Rutherford are keen to utilise the school glasshouses and will be working with the Green School Committee on that after Christmas.
The Student Council have plenty more ideas that they’d like to pursue and will keep you posted on those in the near future.
