On Saturday 17th of February our U19 boys football team made the trip to Banteer GAA grounds to face off against Tarbert Comprehensive School in a hotly contested Munster final. There was great support making plenty of noise in support of the team from CPB on the day.
The first half showed signs of what was to come with the score being close throughout. Tarbert took an early 2-point lead which CPB fired back to with a goal from Ben O’Sullivan. After this point, the game opened up and was a great contest. The first half score at the break was 1-7 to 1-6 in favor of Tarbert Comprehensive School.
The second half saw CPB start excellent and score 4 points without reply from Tarbert which appeared to be a turning point in the tie. The game was extremely tight on the score line throughout. No ball was won easily and every score for both sides had to be worked for. In the end CPB were the unlucky side to lose out by 1 point in a classic final with a final score line of 2-11 to 1-13 in favor of Tarbert.
Players like Mark Og O’Sullivan, Sean Cronin, Cathal McCarthy and Dara Sheedy to name a few all had excellent individual games to compliment the CPB performance.
Well done to Tarbert on their win and best of luck in the All Ireland series.
The entire CPB team fought until the final whistle but were narrowly beaten. Huge credit goes out to every player on the panel for their effort and commitment throughout the Munster campaign.
Although the Munster series is now over for our U19 boy’s footballers, they still have a county final to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Huge thanks to all the players, management, sponsors and the wider school community who were involved and followed the lads throughout the year.
