On Thursday, March 14th, we participated in the UCC Cork Schools Wheelchair Cup. The tournament featured four pools, with the winner of each proceeding to the semi-finals. Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí competed against Coláiste Mhuire Crosshaven, Meánscoil San Nioclás, and Edmund Rice in the pool stage, emerging victorious in all three matches to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Despite Coláiste Choilm taking an early lead in the semi-final, our team rallied together, producing excellent teamwork to claw back and ultimately emerge as the winners. In the final, we faced Carrigtowhill College, who also boasted an impressive winning streak. Although the East Cork side took an early lead, Coláiste Pobail fought back with notable contributions from players like Oisín O’Connor and Paddy Russell. The Bantry team displayed solid defense in the closing stages, clinching victory by a six-point margin and securing the championship title. Congratulations to all involved in the tournament. Oisín O’Connor was recognized as the tournament MVP, while Cathal McCarthy received the “best defender” award. Paddy Russell stood out as our top scorer on the day, and notable performances were also seen from Saffron Hogan, Ella O’Donovan, and Jack Gibbons. Well done to the entire squad, including Oisín O’Connor, Cathal McCarthy, Ella O’Donovan, Saffron Hogan, Jack Gibbons, Paddy Russell, Luke O’Sullivan, Conor Young, Oran Brady, Nicola Dragas, Alex Hourihan, and DJ O’Brien.
