On Wednesday, our senior girls Basketball team made school basketball history by reaching the county final for the first time at A grade under 19. It was a hard won victory away to St. Aloysius secondary school in Carrigtwohill. Opening with some excellent scores from Lily OSullivan and Clodagh Downey we had a narrow lead of 3 points at the end of the first quarter. Ali O’Sullivan and Meadhbh Sammon added to our tally and we went into half time leading 25-17. The 2nd half was a different game, St. Als put us under fierce pressure with a full court press and they started to gain points. Our girls kept their heads and with further scores from Katie Russell and excellent free throws from Ali we held our lead and defensively kept the opposition at bay thanks to substitutes Anna Conlon and Lainey Barry. Finishing the game with a narrow 2 point win, the girls look forward to the County Final next Tues against Ghaelcolaiste AG.
