Our U16A and U19A Boys Basketball teams kicked off their League Campaigns today with two hard fought wins again Christian Brothers Cork.
The Under 16’s weren’t long settling into their game and creating their own pace with plenty of defensive turn overs thanks to the quick thinking of Ismael Rodriguez, Danny O’ Donvan and Tim Conlon, finished off with some nice fast breaks. James Cronin and Steven O’ Sullivan were a huge presence under the boards with both lads putting up some lovely rebounds. Darragh Coppinger was a force to be reckoned with alongside Ben Daly, while Mathew, Sean Collins and Conor O’ Sullivan were unstoppable at both ends under the basket and Billy O’ Mahony gave a superb performance with his shooting throughout the game.

The Under 19 Boys didn’t have it their own way against a very physical Christians side. While the Bantry Boys played the better basketball, the size of the Christians team gave them a massive advantage under the boards, where most of their scores came from. The First three quarters were a dogged affair. Charlie Curran and Jack Phillips were doing the majority of the scoring for Bantry but Paddy Russell, Cathal McCarthy, James Murphy and Fionn Goggin were working extremely hard on defense and turned over some fantastic ball to get their teammates in scoring positions. In the final quarter the Bantry team upped a gear and eventually saw off the City boys on a scoreline of 71-50, which gave a different reflection on a game that was much tighter in reality. Well done to the three under 16’s, Tom Conlon, Ismael Rodriquez and Danny O’ Donovan who made vital contributions to the victory.
well done to all involved.
