Both Senior and Junior Boys Rugby Teams Bow Out Of Mungret Cups, But Plenty Rugby To Be Played Yet This Season.

The seniors got off to a good start capitalising on some poor Midelton discipline with Conor Bignal striking two long-range penalties into a strong wind. Midleton CBS settled into the game striking back with 2 converted tries with their strong ball carriers making gains up the field. They converted both tries. With the half time approaching they scored a third try out wide but missed the conversion which left the half-time score 19-6. CPB restarted with the kickoff and regained the momentum of the match. Some excellent work in the forwards with John Joe Nicolas and Dan Coughlan having a big impact. The backs had some really good attacks with free-flowing rugby led by Stephen O Donovan and Joe Egan playing in the center and Eli Reynolds at 15.  Unfortunately, the whitewash evaded the team despite having much dominance and territorial advantage. CPB had the last say with Eli Reyolds regaining a long kick from Midelton deep in his 22 ran the length of the field evading several defenders en route to touch down under the posts. Conor Bignal converted at the final whistle. Final score 19-13. Best of luck to Midleton CBS in the competition.

The Juniors also bowed out at the semi-final stage. Some Key players were unavailable for selection but despite this, there were some impressive performances from Dan Ward, Joe Murnane in the pack, and Adam Gilman Burke, Donnacha Murnane, and Conor Collins in the backline. A solid performance from a young panel of players holds well for this team.

In other rugby matters, Our first-year team hosts Clonakilty Community College in CPB on March 6^th in their first full 15-team outing. The U-15s have qualified for the final day of the McCarthy C Cup which will be played in UL 4G pitch on April 9th.  The Annual Aiden Ross Tournament will be held in Dunmanway RFC on March 21^st so lots of rugby and silverware to play for before the season ends.
