Both our Senior and Junior rugby teams kicked off their season with home fixtures V Colaiste Coilm Ballincollig in the MungretCup and Mungret Shield respectively.
In the fabulous autumn sunshine at the recently redeveloped Bantry Bay RFC home grounds the junior team got off to a winning start in the competition with a hard-fought victory over Colaiste Coilm. After making a positive start to the match andtaking the lead CPB conceded 3 successive well worked scores by Ballincollig and went into the halftime break on a scoreline of 7-21. A much improved second half performance, in which the CPB set piece and the scrum in particular saw CPB taking control of the game. Adam O’Donovan and Georgie McNulty lead the challenge testing the Ballincollig defense on numerousoccasions. Jack O’Brien playing at scrum half continued to feed the ball to the onrushing CPB backs with the hero of the day Oran O’Connell making a dashing sprint to the whitwash beating several Ballincollig defenders to touchdown on the final whistle to secure a well-deserved 33-29 win. Well done to all who participated in the fixture. CPB now move forward in the Jun Cup qualifiers as well as the next round of the MungretShield away to Clonakilty Community College on Nov 7th.
