On Tuesday our under 19 girls basketball headed to Neptune to play in the school’s first ever A county final. With a loud group of supporters Neptune was rocking! Having already played and coming out on top in a very close encounter in an earlier round they knew they faced a formidable opposition in Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG. CPB got off to the perfect start with the opening score. Lily O’Sullivan, Clodagh Downey and Meadhbh Sammon all got points on the board for CPB. The first two quarters saw CPB trail by a single point with nothing to separate the two sides. Half way through the score was 23 -24 in the opposition’s favour. It was certainly not from a lack of effort with great rebounding from Katie Russell and Ali O’Sullivan on defence. Clodagh was excellent securing vital possession and driving to the basket time and time again. The sister act of Lily and Abbie O’Sullivan scored 17 points between them. In the third quarter Gaelcholáiste AG opened up a four point lead as Norah Cronin showed her prowess with great rebounding. In the final quarter although they battled hard the shots just wouldn’t drop for the girls as the opposition picked off several three pointers to leave a final score of 39 – 47. This was a high intensity game with all players giving their all and unfortunately coming up short on this occasion but not from lack of effort. They can be extremely proud of their performance and are looking forward to the All Ireland series after Christmas.
Scorers:
Lily O’Sullivan 13 points
Clodagh Downey 15 points
Meadhbh Sammon 2 points
Abbie O’Sullivan 5 points
