On Thursday 28th November, our 2nd year Student Council Representatives Fiona Murphy, Olivia Minehane and Vivaan Bhattacharya attended the AGM of the Cork County Comhairle na nÓg. They had a fantastic day from start to finish learning lots about what Comhairle na nÓg is and what they do.
Last year their focus was on Gender Equality and this year’s focus is on Mental Health. Fiona, Olivia and Vivaan took part in walking debates where they had the opportunity to voice their thoughts and opinions on some interesting topics – one being that social media apps should be banned for under16s and another being that the voting age should be lowered to 16.
Two of our 6th year Student Council members are currently on Comhairle na nÓg, Maebh Burke and Niall McCarthy. They have had tremendous opportunities in their time with Comhairle na nÓg such as abroad trips to America and Germany and a visit to Dáil Éireann. Maebh has been co-chair this past year. Both Niall and Maebh were involved in the running of the AGM and did CPB proud! Well done to all 5 students for their participation in a very successful event!
