To: All Parents, Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí
From: Parents’ Association
Dear Parents,
We are delighted to advise you that the new committee of Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí Parents’ Association (PA) is now in place following the Annual General Meeting on 18th October, 2016. Please see the school website at: http://www.colaistepobailbheanntrai.com/parents-association-agm-information-event-2016/.
The Parents’ Association was established in 2013 to enhance the school experience for families and to foster good relations between parents, teachers, students and the school authorities (see http://www.colaistepobailbheanntrai.com/about/pa ).
Work undertaken since the last AGM in March 2016 built on achievements in previous years. Since the 2015 AGM was quite close to the final term and a time when the school began to focus on preparing for house and state examinations, we did not hold any large events. We had one committee meeting prior to the summer in April 2016 and reconvened in mid-September for the first meeting of the new academic year. Two members of An Garda Síochána were with us at the AGM and spoke about drugs, alcohol and the need for teenagers to be careful when online. You might like to have a look at some of the other initiatives which have undertaken including various guides (on school website) and the Parents’ Forum in the last academic year.
We’re currently putting the final touches to a talk on “Promoting good mental health in our teenagers” to be held on 22nd November, 2016 at 7.30 pm (see Posters and http://www.colaistepobailbheanntrai.com/category/news/pa-news ). Also, another note for your 2017 diary – we will be hosting Parents’ Forum in Springtime to which all parents will be invited.
The Parents’ Association does not have a fundraising role and we have some expenses for which we need your help. We would like to ask each family for a voluntary subscription of €10 for expenses to be covered in 2016/17. Contributions are needed for:
- The insurance for the Parents’ Association meetings, events and seminars. The annual premium is €220.
- Costs for speakers and experts who contribute to events, seminars and workshops on matters relevant to young people’s education and well-being while in school.
- Some basic stationery/office/refreshment costs – like paper, stamps, photocopying, envelopes, ‘phone texts to parents, tea, biscuits etc. There are no Department of Education & Science funds available to cover these.
Please note that any excess funds raised by PA are donated to the school.
We appreciate your support and thank you in advance. Please use the School Way to Pay Tool on the School Website or respond to the Text from the school for this.
If you are interested in finding out more about your Parents’ Association or are in a position to offer help, please refer to the school website or speak to any committee member whose names are on the PA page of the website – www.colaistepobailbheanntrai.com/parentsassociation. We’re also happy to have your ideas & suggestions.
Yours sincerely, Rita Kearney, Chairperson 15th November, 2016
