Well done to our Under 19 Boys basketball team who emulated what the under 16’s did an hour before them today, and qualified for the Basketball Ireland Pinergy schools National Cup Semi Final by virtue of an emphatic win over Coláiste Íde agus Íosef of Limerick.
The first quarter was a tight affair but excellent shooting from Cian Keohane, coupled with fantastic rebounding from Guido Toniola and Eoghan O’ Donoghue allowed the Bantry Boys to take a 20-10 lead into the second quarter. Mark O’ Sullivan at point guard marshalled the Bantry offense with some fantastic assists to Ronan O’ Sullivan and Ethan Hanley who both added to the Bantry score giving them a 31-12 half time lead. This team has the luxury of a very strong 10 players so when the bench is used there is no let up on either offense or defense and when Shane Murnane came in for Guido Toniola the rebound averages stayed the same. As did the scoring and build up play when the under 16 duo of Jack Phillips and Charlie Curran were on the court. It was also great to see Stephen O’ Donovan back in the CPB colours after a lengthy inury layoff. The time away from basketball hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm that infects the whole team. Cian Keohane hit 22 points today with Ronan O’ Sullivan notching up 15 and Ethan Hanley adding 9. But overall this was a fantastic team performace which saw the Bantry Boys run out worthy winners. The National Cup semi-final will take place on the week of the 5th to 9th of December. Thanks as always to our fantastic supporters and a special word of thanks to Meadhb Sammon and Moya Coakley for their excellent photographs.
