On Monday, November 27th, our dedicated students from 2D took a proactive step towards environmental stewardship by conducting a beach cleanup at Beicin. Beyond just cleaning the shoreline, their mission was to delve into the types of waste affecting our beaches, with a particular focus on addressing the pervasive issue of plastics in our oceans.
Aligned with their ongoing coursework in Sustainability, 2D understands the profound impact of marine plastic pollution on climate change. Their efforts contribute not only to a cleaner environment but also to a broader initiative to raise awareness about responsible plastic usage within our local community.
In a creative and innovative twist, the marine waste collected during the cleanup will be upcycled by our talented Transition Year (TY) students as part of their Junk Couture creation. The initiative doesn’t stop there – 2D’s publicity team is gearing up for an Awareness Campaign that will include eye-catching posters, impactful photos, and more.
Currently in the process of compiling their findings, 2D is developing a Citizenship Action Report. This report will encapsulate the data and insights gathered during their beach cleanup, providing a comprehensive overview of the environmental impact of plastics and offering practical solutions.
It’s heartening to report that members of the public, moved by 2D’s dedication, expressed their appreciation during the cleanup. One memorable encounter captured in photo 3 saw a kind lady purchasing a tin of biscuits for the team, underscoring the positive ripple effect that environmental initiatives can have on our community.
As we celebrate 2D’s commitment to sustainability, let’s collectively reflect on our plastic consumption and disposal habits. The findings from this initiative serve as a catalyst for change, urging us all to take conscious steps towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
Stay tuned for more updates and insights as 2D progresses in their Sustainability module. Together, as a community, we can make a meaningful impact on our environment and inspire positive change.
