Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí is delighted to announce their acceptance to a JCT school initiative entitled ‘Me and My Music’. We were chosen along with thirty-five other schools across Ireland, out of over one-hundred-and-forty applications to partake in this programme. Now in its third roll-out, the ‘Me and My Music’ initiative, run by the JCT Music team, is an active collaboration between JCT, IMRO (Irish Music Rights Organisation) and Sing Ireland.
A visiting musician will collaborate with the Music teacher in Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí in planning for first year music students to engage in the creative process and produce a musical artefact that will be the responsibility of the students that create it. The students will be given the opportunity to engage in the music writing process and to try and access their inner creativity to produce a sound composition to share with others in their school community.
The Music teacher and first year Music students along with the visiting musician, will play and record this composition, and students will be encouraged to reflect on the creative process and where they got their inspiration from, as well as researching different styles of music and composition to broaden their horizons, to gain an insight from both existing and past artists and composers, in fostering their creativity and love of music. Pictures of the ongoing initiative will be posted to the website as progress on the composition continues.
