On Monday 20th of March Colaiste Pobail represented the West Cork Post Primary schools at the launch of the West Cork Cup for Schools soccer in West Cork. The first cup this year is for Under 17’s and will involve 5 schools in West Cork with the final fixed for April 7th at Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai’s pitch. The Cup was put up by the family of well known West Cork referee Richard Conroy who passed away in 2016.
At the launch his family spoke of his passion for the development of West Cork Soccer and how delighted he would be to have the first ever schools competition in West Cork to be dedicated to his memory.
Cork City FC manager John Caulfield was also present at the launch and expressed his delight at the formation of the new competition and singled out Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai for special praise for the development of players in West Cork. “Connor Ellis, last year’s Colaiste Pobail captain is now scoring goals in the Irish Premier division, so it’s evident that the schools are doing fantastic work in the development of players and this can be even further developed by the introduction of this competition”. Present at the launch from CPB were Mr Pat Curran and under 17 captain and vice captain Kuba Ratajckak and Seth Thornton.
