On Wednesday, 18th March 2015, Mr Jerry Desmond and Ms Mary O’ Regan-Barsum of the ‘Bantry Bay Lions Club’ visited Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí to meet with the school SPHE Co-Ordinator, Ms Siobhan O’ Donoghue and the Deputy Principal, Mr Denis O’Sullivan. The purpose of the visit was to present information leaflets, produced by the ‘Lions Club’ organisation, one per family, on bullying and cyberbullying, for distribution to the students of the school and thereby to the parents/guardians. The leaflet contains vital information on bullying for parents/guardians, including advice on identifying bullying by recognising the characteristic indicators of bullying, dealing effectively with a bullying issue and details of support services available for those troubled by bullying. While management and staff of Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí are very grateful to the ‘Lions Clubs’ organisation for publishing this useful and informative leaflet, all in the school community greatly appreciate the endeavour of Mr Jerry Desmond and Ms Mary O’Regan-Barsum of the local ‘Bantry Bay Lions Club’ in providing sufficient quantities of the leaflet for the benefit of the school students and their parents/guardians. The distribution of this leaflet is timely, happening as it did on the same day that a bullying survey was conducted for all students in Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí, the survey being completed on an anonymous basis in order to encourage reporting of incidents of bullying. While a hard copy of the ‘Lions Club’ leaflet has been provided in the school to a child from each family, it can also be found online at the following link:
