On May 22nd Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí U-14 ladies footballers were celebrating in Aughaville after a tremendous battle in the County Final against Schull.
On a day when the pitch and weather conditions were perfect for football the supporters were not disappointed. Schull were 1-1 up after 5 minutes but 4 well taken points levelled the game after 15 minutes. Coláiste Pobail never looked back. The high work rate and ethic of the girls was seen throughout.
Bantry were a point up at half time but refocused and under Mr S.P Ó Síocháins guidance they continued to dominate in the second half. They hit the post and crossbar on 3 occassions but never gave up and midway through the half scored their first goal to make the scoreline 1-13 to 1-4.
The midfield pairing and half backs were supplying the busy and active forwards with great ball all throughout the game. The backs who when called upon defended with everything they had and kept Schull at bay until very near the end. While this victory was a great team performance there were some fine individual performances also on show.
The team showed great determination to achieve victory and at the final whistle deservedly celebrated, with their coaches Libby Coppinger and Emilie Murphy, winning out on a scoreline of 4-14 to 4-4.
Captain Anne Marie O’ Mahony lifted the trophy on the teams behalf.
It was a great way to finish off a successful year of sport at Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí. Well done girls
